Rental Cleanroom – a Success Story

Written by COLANDIS Marketing | 8.12.2025

As a basis for new business models, to bridge the gap during a breakdown, or simply for a specific project – these are some of the reasons why our rental cleanroom has been used for many years.

The first assignment

In August 2009, we helped our customer maintain production during the period required to eliminate a breakdown in their cleanroom. Their products were comparable in type and price to those of their competitors. If they had been forced to stop production, their customers would likely have switched to competitors, and the costs of winning them back would have been incalculable. In comparison, bridging the gap with a rental cleanroom was predictable and flexible.

Areas of Application

Currently, our customers mainly use the rental cleanroom to determine whether clean production could be a viable long-term business expansion. Our customers have perfect control over their manufacturing processes, but the concept of production under clean conditions is new territory for them. To evaluate whether and how this might work, we provide support with the rental cleanroom and – if required – with consultancy and training on logistics, cleaning, and proper conduct within the cleanroom.

Most of our rental cleanrooms are used in Germany, but already 22% of usage occurs within the European region – and demand is increasing. Unfortunately, use outside of Europe is not profitable due to high logistics costs.

We have also used our system ourselves for unusual purposes. For example, we installed the rental cleanroom on our premises and temporarily converted our garage into a cleanroom. Our existing cleanrooms were too small for the customer’s product, making a temporary expansion necessary. Large components weighing more than 3 tons were brought in. Another substantial component weighing over 3 tons was cleaned and processed for the customer thanks to the filter wall and a system modification.

The rental cleanroom is used primarily in technical fields. Due to cleaning requirements, it is only partially suitable for medical applications.

Current Status

Originally starting with just one, we now have up to seven rental systems available. Over time, we have supported around 60 different customers with a rental cleanroom at least once. Three customers regularly place orders for individual projects, as they do not yet require continuous cleanroom production; therefore, investing in their own permanent solution is not economically feasible at this time.

Key Facts at a Glance

Do you also need a cleanroom for a (project) period? A few days after receiving your order and clarifying all logistical details, the rental cleanroom is delivered to your site and quickly assembled and commissioned by our technicians. You will then have access to a cleanroom of air cleanliness class ISO 5 according to DIN EN ISO 14644-1 (always depending on processes and personnel), with a width of 4 m, a height of 2.5 (or 3) m, and a length of 5 m. For three customers, the rental cleanroom was even extended to 14 and 20 m, with processes arranged accordingly and personnel trained. The arrangement of processes and training is crucial because the cleanroom is horizontally flushed with clean air, meaning critical processes take place near the filter wall – the cleanest area of the rental cleanroom.

There are no time limitations. Starting from a minimum rental period of one month, the rental cleanroom can be rented for any desired duration – whether 3 months or 3 years. This is entirely up to our customers.
